Pacquiao, also a congressman from Sarangani province in Mindanao, met members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) for lunch at the CBCP headquarters in Manila to add his opposition to the bill.
The bill was scheduled for plenary debateat 4 pm on Tuesday.
But Pacquiao also emphasised he is against civil disobedience, specifically the non-payment of taxes as advocated by groups opposed to the bill which has been pending in the House of Representatives for more than nine years.
He warned the government would be the biggest loser if some pro-lifers proceed with their plan not to pay taxes to protest against the enactment of the bill into a law.
However, Pacquiao stressed his support for the CBCP comes from his strong faith in the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Pacquiao disclosed that he and his wife Jinkee, who have four children, have practised family planning through the approved methods.
The CBCP also adheres to the Vatican doctrine which bans the use of artificial methods which it considers as sin.
But in reaction to the Pacquiao revelation, the Filipino Free Thinkers which supports family planning, released through its website the admission of Jinkee Pacquiao that she took the pill to limit the number of their children.
President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino has come under heavy fire from the CBCP for espousing responsible parenthood by giving couples the freedom to choose the contraceptive methods they need.
The bill aims to achieve this by allowing the government to purchase and distribute both the natural and artificial methods especially to poor couples who want to practise family planning.
The issue came to a boil when Aquino warned sedition charges await pro-lifers who threatened not to pay taxes as part of their civil disobedience campaign if he signs the family planning bill into law.
But some CBCP members reacted strongly and challenged Aquino to put them all into jail for their strong opposition to the bill.
