Lee DeWyze refused to present 'American Idol' trophy to Scotty McCreery?

"American Idol" fans who tuned into the Season 10 finale on Wednesday, May 25, were a bit surprised to see last season's winner Lee DeWyze sitting in the fifth row. In fact, DeWyze didn't even receive an on-camera mention from Ryan Seacrest. (Cory, the show's emcee who keeps the crowd energized during the commercial breaks, did tell the crowd DeWyze was in attendance.)

All eyes were on American Idol winner Scotty McCreery as he was crowned the 2011 American Idol.  Most finale episode traditions were observed in the 2011 finale, except for one big thing – where was last year’s winner, Lee DeWyze.    Performers for the night, which of courses included both Scotty and Lauren Alaina, also featured songs by U2 front man Bono, Idol judge and rocker Steven Tyler, and baby boomer generation singer, Tom Jones! The FOX TV show, American Idol was red hot with talent!  Let’s not forget the very controversial booty bumping done by Lady Gaga! So where was Lee DeWyze during all of these?

Rumor has it that he was approached by executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for the honor of presenting the winner with their newest title of American Idol 2011.  Lee reportedly turned down the opportunity despite having attended the first half of the finale the night before.  Nigel tweeted:

“I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn’t present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he’d been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy”

 ..........................

Could DeWyze's fifth row seating and snub be punishment from executive producer Nigel Lythgoe for refusing to take part in Scotty McCreery's coronation? Or is Lythgoe trying to find an explanation for DeWyze's finale absence?

On May 26, Lythgoe tweeted, "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he's been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy." Jennifer Lopez presented the trophy to Scotty instead.

A tweet from a DeWyze fan, saying, "You may not give a rats *ss about Lee but viewers do!! Suck on your ratings loss *sswipe!!!," prompted Lythgoe's tweet about the Season 9 winner. On May 23, DeWyze tweeted that he wasn't asked to perform at the finale.

Do you think Lythgoe's tweet was uncalled for or do you think DeWyze should have presented Scotty with the winner's trophy? Sound off in the comments.
